WASHINGTON, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- The U.S. Department of Energy has levied a $123,750 fine against the Battelle Energy Alliance for violating federal nuclear safety requirements.
BEA is the department's prime contractor for the operation of the Neutron Radiography reactor that examines irradiated materials utilizing thermal neutrons. It is used for quality control purposes in industries that require precision machining.
